Girl vs. Monster is a Disney+ film that showcases scary creatures, monster-hunters, and a plot for revenge. The narrative begins with Skylar (Olivia Holt), a young girl that isn’t afraid of anything until she discovers her parents’ secret life of destroying supernatural beings. On Halloween night, Skylar must follow in her mother and father’s footsteps to rescue them from an immortal monster and fight against other creatures she meets along the way.
Twitches
The twin sisters of the magical Coventry, Alex (Tia Mowry-Hardrict) and Camryn (Tamera Mowry-Housley), are sent away from their home after the Darkness threatens to take their lives. Unfortunately, the only way to keep them safe is by separating them and giving them secret identities in order to hide from the heinous enemy. After some time has passed, the twins eventually reunite and discover their magical powers as “Twitches,” a term they come up with in their time together. However, Alex and Camryn are still in danger from the Darkness, forcing them to use their newfound skills to destroy it once and for all. What makes Twitches a phenomenal scary movie is how the film maintains a balance of lighthearted moments and scenes that will have you on the edge of your seat. Fans can also continue the story in Twitches Too, which is currently available on Disney+.
The Scream Team
The Scream Team stars many famous actors and actresses in Hollywood, such as Kat Dennings as Claire Carlyle, Eric Idle as Coffin Ed, Kathy Najimy as Mariah, Tommy Davidson as Jumper, and many more. In this film, Claire and Ian Carlyle (Mark Rendall) go to their father’s childhood home and meet three quirky apparitions. At first, the siblings are terrified of the ghostly figures, but they soon realize they need to team up with them to stop the villainous Zachariah Kull (Kim Coates).
Mom’s Got A Date with a Vampire
Mom’s Got a Date with a Vampire tells the spooky story of the Hansen family as they come face-to-face with a creature of the undead. It all starts when the siblings, Adam (Matt O’Leary) and Chelsea (Laura Vandervoort), strategize a plan to get their mom, Lynette (Caroline Rhea), out of the house after they’ve been grounded. The family decides to set Lynette up with Dimitri Denatos (Charles Shaughnessy) to distract her while they sneak out. However, their brother, Taylor (Myles Jeffrey), learns that Dimitri is actually a vampire, and the siblings must do whatever it takes to save their mom.
The Haunted Mansion
Based on the thrilling Disney attraction, The Haunted Mansion is a fantastic film for children and adults, with a plot twist you won’t see coming. The story follows the journey of the Evers family, including Jim (Eddie Murphy), Sara (Marsha Thomason), Michael (Marc John Jefferies), and Megan (Aree Davis), and their run-ins during a family vacation. Since Jim puts his realty work first, he derails their trip to sell a highly-profitable house known as “Gracey Manor”. Once they arrive, they find themselves trapped in an age-old curse, and the only way out is to unlock the truth of this haunted house.
Halloweentown
Watching Halloweentown in the month of October has become a tradition for most fans, and now you can join in by experiencing the frightening narrative on Disney+. The film’s characters have become widely popular within the community, such as Kimberly J. Brown as Marnie Piper and Debbie Reynolds as Aggie Cromwell. The opening scene begins on Halloween night when Marnie’s grandmother, Aggie, makes a surprise appearance to see her grandchildren and daughter. As time passes, she has to leave abruptly to catch a mysterious late-night bus, and the children decide to follow her secretly. When they finally reach their destination, they arrive in Halloweentown, a place they had thought to be a myth. The Nightmare Before Christmas
Tim Burton movies have been known for their unique designs and scary storylines, especially with the film, The Nightmare Before Christmas. The main protagonist, Jack Skellington, is the Pumpkin King of Halloween Land who yearns for a different life outside this strange universe. Because of this feeling, he ventures off into the unknown and finds Christmas Town, a location he believes to be his new home. Although the story has some pleasant moments in Christmas Town, the film still exhibits horrific elements and creatures, like the vicious Oogie Boogie.
Hocus Pocus
Because Hocus Pocus is one of the most popular Halloween movies on Disney+, it had to be on this list of the best scary movies. The story begins when the Sanderson sisters of Salem awaken after 300 years and continue their mission to consume the life force of children. The characters, Max (Omri Katz), Dani (Thora Birch), Allison (Vinessa Shaw), and the trusty sidekick, Thackery Binx (Jason Marsden), must stop the witches from taking the lives of innocent kids before the night ends. You can also look forward to the new adventures of the Sanderson sisters in Hocus Pocus 2, where Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy will return in their roles as Winifred, Sarah, and Mary.
Don’t Look Under the Bed
Even if it has been more than 20 years since the release of Don’t Look Under the Bed, the film is still highly regarded as the scariest Disney movie by fans.
